Trinity Sanctuary Choir enjoys the status as being an excellent choir in the Frankfurt area. Weekly musical offerings in worship, regular classical concerts and consistent invitations to appear at various important Frankfurt events have all given the choir a solid reputation as an exceptional choir with members that accept nothing less from themselves than their very best for the glory of God. Worshipers and audience-members alike have come to anticipate wonderful sacred music whenever and wherever Trinity's Sanctuary Choir sings. The multi-cultural choir rehearses Wednesday evenings from 19.00-21:30 in the Sanctuary (Fall/Winter in Utatu-Room) and currently enjoys a current membership of about 15-20 singers.

The choir provides music regularly for Sunday morning worship services by singing service music and choral anthems. On Sundays, the choir sings everything from traditional anthems and standard hymns, to Taizé choruses, and excerpts from oratorios and motets, in German, Latin and English. The choir often sings a cappella, but is also occasionally enhanced with organ or piano accompaniment, and special stringed or brass instrumental accompaniment for festival worship services such as Easter, Christmas and Reformation. Trinity is blessed with many professional musicians who also regularly participate in the choral projects at Trinity.

Despite the choir’s high musical standard, Trinity Sanctuary Choir does not discriminate or exclude anyone from participating—all who love to sing are welcome, regardless of how little or much choral experience one has. Because the group is so international, we also experience people moving in and out of Frankfurt on a regular basis, which means that the choir is always in need of new members—even if you’re here just a short while. The director will help you learn and often takes the time to work individually with those who need extra help. Those with more musical training are expected to mentor those who are inexperienced, while at the same time deepening their understanding of sacred music. Those with less experience are challenged to learn and grow in their knowledge of what it means to lead worship as a choir member, and to learn respectfully and eagerly from those who are mentoring. All this happens in a weekly choir rehearsal that begins with a brief time of prayer, where we share praises and concerns of our fellow members and dedicate the rehearsal and upcoming musical offerings to the glory of God.

Sanctuary Choir appears frequently at community events within the Frankfurt area. The choir’s most popular event is the annual Advent Vespers service, held each year on the 3rd Saturday of Advent, to a standing-room only congregation at the Alte Nikolai Kirche on Frankfurt’s historic Römerberg. The choir and soloists present special Advent and Christmas music and provide descants to the Christmas Carol Singing. Guests come each year from as far as Nürnberg and Suttgart to experience this tradition! The choir also participates regularly in the ecumenical Nacht der internationalen Kirchenchören (Night of international church choirs) and in the closing worship services in the ecumenical Pfinsgtenfest (Pentecost Festivals), both held in large, historic churches in Frankfurt. The choir has also performed at Frankfurt Newcomers Festivals in the Wiesbaden Kurhaus, the Schloss Biebrich and at the Römerberg. Last year the choir participated in a festival concert with other international church choirs in the famous Basilika in Seligenstadt am Main.

Sanctuary Choir is committed to music as ministry—not just performance—and the music ministry often functions a bridge to many of the programs within Trinity. Evangelism, worship, outreach, fellowship and education are all very important components of the music ministry at Trinity. The choir has performed for many weddings, baptisms and funerals of Trinity members. It has given benefit performances for the Frankfurt Bahnhof Mission and regularly gives donations to local and international outreach projects, such as the Tuyomoyo Street Children Project in Tanzania and memorial funds for neighboring English-speaking churches, such the Episcopal Church of Christ-the-King. Weekend choir retreats are held regularly to foster friendships, strengthen musicianship skills, and develop spiritual growth and musical leadership. Scholarly seminars about large sacred choral works are often presented for the congregation and the community in order to enhance understanding about upcoming concerts. Frequently choral workshops featuring world-class professional singers who bring their knowledge about singing and performing to the group are held for choir members and interested supporters of Trinity’s music program.

The choir also regularly gives full-length concerts and has recorded several CDs. Sanctuary choir has performed several classical works with professional orchestra, and has also presented two concerts of American music, both jointly with Trinity’s children and youth choirs. Any of the concert CDs can be obtained from the church office for a donation of €10.
